I just created a graphic that I think will help my students solve word problems with consistency. Most of my students are strong in math and not in language arts, thus the dis-connect between general math skills and solving word problems.
I am printing out these as we speak (as I type:) for each of my students to paste into their math notebooks. I was going to have them draw it in there on their own but decided that it would be better to have their focus be on actually solving the word problems as opposed to creating the organizer that will help them solve word problems!
I got this idea from Pinterest (of course) and created a digital version of it for my uses:
